Urgent - Refugees Need Housing

Dear Friend,

We have an urgent situation. This evening, JFCS/East Bay will welcome an Afghan refugee family to our community. This young mom and her two kids fled Afghanistan and have been living in Turkey. The father has been missing for several years.

As is often the case when refugees get approved to come to the United States, the State Department just gave us the family's arrival date last week. As the family's anchor resettlement agency, one of JFCS/East Bay's responsibilities is finding them suitable housing in Contra Costa County.

This is where you come in. We have successfully located a short-term living arrangement for the family, from now through December 20. We are hoping that you or someone you know might have a connection to an affordable apartment that will work for this family after that date--either on a long-term basis or through January 7.

Please let us know if you think you can help. You can contact Barbara Nelson, Director of Refugee & Immigrant Services at  bnelson@jfcs-eastbay.org or (925) 927-2000. The family will also need furniture and household items once an apartment is located.

Thank you, as always, for your generosity and commitment to community.

Avi Rose

Executive Director
