Subject: Sign the Jewish Community Letter on Guns

Friends,

This is crucial week as we work together to build support for a comprehensive approach to gun violence. Read on for a second interfaith call-in day and Jewish community sign-on letter to Congress.

This week, as Senators return to Washington from their March recess, a gun violence package of legislation is expected to come to the Senate floor.  The exact contours of that legislation are still unknown, so it is important that we reinforce our message. On Tuesday April 9th, we urge you to join us for the second FaithsCalling mobilization to once again let our voice be heard on Capitol Hill. Last time, over 10,000 calls were made. This time, with Senate action imminent, it is crucial that you call in support of comprehensive reform and encourage your networks to do so as well. You can find out more at http://www.faithscalling.org

As expected, we are facing resistance.  The package approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee, which includes increased school safety, restrictions on gun trafficking, background checks, and bans on certain types of weapons and ammo, is headed to the Senate floor, but faces challenges. There are a number of possible routes forward which include the package, in whole or part, as one vote or a series of single votes with amendments. These obstacles to gun violence legislation mean it is more important than ever to demonstrate our support for comprehensive action to end gun violence.

If have not already, please sign your synagogue or organization onto our Jewish community sign-on letter to the Senate. You can read the letter online here. If you are interested in signing, please contact Taylor Lustig at tlustig@thejcpa.org immediately

Next week will be an important week, and our voices as community leaders will be essential in advancing comprehensive gun reform.

We both thank you for your partnership.

With blessings,
Rabbi Amy Eilberg
