On the Nobility of Zionism

On the Nobility of Zionism
© Rabbi Menachem Creditor

To begin, a comparison: The situation of mass incarceration in the US is a staggering reality, caught in myriad instances of legalized racism (for the clearest, and most horrifying analysis, read Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow"). This does not erase the latent nobility of the US. It makes me yearn for its return, which demands an overturning of some clusters of injustice. The possibility of such, in alignment with the larger unfolding narrative of the American People, is instructive within the moral arc of Jewish/Israeli history. We have much healing to embody and enact, and that collective commitment is what makes Zionism - and so much more - noble.
