Defiant Rugelach [a #poem]

Defiant Rugelach
© Rabbi Menachem Creditor

I hadn't come back,
more than a decade since
the bomb.

Burned by hate,
baptised by blood and tears,
rebuilt in weeks,
memorial plaque installed in months,
Sbarros became Ma'afeh Ne'eman,
(bakery of faith)
where life and rugelach
are delicious, dammit,
and refuse to stop.

Echoes of that horrid blast
fill my earseyesheartsoul
as I sit here once again
and defiantly enjoy my pastry.
