Netanyahu commits to promoting Arab construction in East Jerusalem Ha'aretzPrime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the international community's Middle East envoy, Tony Blair, announced a series of gestures that Israel will make to the Palestinians, including a promise to support Arab construction in East Jerusalem. The meeting between Netanyahu and Blair comes a day before a summit of the Quartet of Mideast peacemakers - the United States, European Union, United Nations and Russia - for whom Blair is the envoy. |

Israelis want to rejoice over the outbreak of protests in Egypt's city squares. They want to believe that this is the Arab world's 1989 moment. Perhaps, they say, the poisonous reflex of blaming the Jewish state for the Middle East's ills will be replaced by an honest self-assessment. But few Israelis really believe in that hopeful outcome. Instead, the grim assumption is that it is just a matter of time before the only real opposition group in Egypt, the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, takes power.

Innovation, Medicine and Culture Holocaust historical data goes digital Associated Press
Israel's Holocaust memorial, Yad Vashem, is teaming up with Google to make its photographs and documents interactive and searchable on the Internet. The project launched with a collection of 130,000 photos that can now be searched directly from Google, using standard keywords and other data that make it far easier than in the past to find desired information.
