Clergy and faith leader colleagues:
This week, the U.S. Senate will vote on proposals intended to prevent gun violence in our communities.
In preparation for that vote, a multi-faith group of clergy leaders from Newtown, Conn., has written a letter to the Senators, calling on them to pass meaningful legislation that includes: a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, enforceable universal background checks, an end to gun trafficking, and prosecution of straw purchasers.
The Newtown clergy have asked PICO to organize American religious leaders to stand with them. As a colleague in religious leadership and one concerned for the safety of all our children, will you add your name by Tuesday evening to our letter to be sent to Senators before they begin voting this week?
Newtown does not want to be remembered as the town of the tragedy but the bridge to a new and kinder world. Please join with us, and the clergy of Newtown, in building that bridge by adding your name to this letter to the Senators.
In faith and hope,
